- Bio: Ida B. Norness 1900-2002 Ida Bettina (Onsgaard) Nornes, 102, died on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Friendship Village Care Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, where she resided since 1985. Ida was born in Winger, Minnesota to Evind and Barbro (Espeseth) Onsgaard, immigrants from Norway, on July 10, 1900. Ida was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church, Winger. She graduated from McIntosh High School and attended Valley City Normal School. She taught school in Bejou and worked in the bank in Winger. On July 24, 1924, Ida was united in marriage to Halvor Nornes at Winger. They lived in Winger, where they raised a family. Halvor died in 1983. Ida moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota, before moving to Bloomington. Ida will be remembered for her loving support of her family and for her dedicated work in Calvary Lutheran Church. She was known for her excellence in music, as a church organist, choir member and vocal soloist. She taught Sunday School and was active in Ladies' Aid. Ida shared her many creative talents throughout the ears in gardening, sewing, crafts and landscape oil painting. Survivors include her two sons, Howard and wife, Sonia, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and LaVern and wife, Lois, of Bloomington; daughters in law, Avis Nornes of Hendricks, Minnesota and Gloria Nornes of Tacoma, Washington; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Halvor, and two sons, Ernest and Sherman. Funeral services and committal for Ida were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Winger. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 8 from 7-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, Minnesota. Burial was in the Winger Cemetery, Winger. The Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen was in charge of the arrangements.
