    • Bob Olson, 98, passed away September 10, 2015 at his Sparks home. He was born in Bridge, ID, May 3, 1917. He graduated from Belmont high school in Los Angeles, CA in 1935 and the Frank Wiggins Electrical Trade School in 1937. Bob joined the international brotherhood of electrical workers union in November 1937 and served an apprenticeship. During his early electrician career, he did electrical projects for several movie stars including Gene Autry, Dick Powell, June Allyson, Judy Garland and Vincent Minnelli. He wired the nursery for Judy Garland so it would be ready when Liza Minnelli was born.He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician during World War II. Later moving to Fernley, NV in 1946, he bought a couple of ranches. In 1957, he sold the ranches and decided to return to electrical work and for 17 years was employed with Landa Electric, Reno.In 1975, Bob took on the challenge of working on the Alaskan oil pipeline, braving temperatures below -70 degrees, he and the crews worked 10 hours a day 7 days a week. Bob returned to Sparks, NV in 1977 and began working for Jensen Electric wiring on what was the MGM Grand Hotel, Circus Circus, and (then) Sierra Pacific Power Company.He return on April 1979 at the age of 62 and serve as president of the retired members of local for one in Reno NevadaSurviving relatives include daughters Barbara Haynes, Gaynel Rose and Sandra Kennedy; and granddaughter Tiffany Haynes.A viewing and visitation is scheduled Wednesday, September 16th, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at O'Brien-Rogers & Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. 2nd St., Reno. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th, 11:00am at Sierra Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Reno.
