- Alvira Beatrice Olson was born April 4, 1925 in Langford, SD to Hans and Ida (Stave) Olson. As a youngster, she attended country school and graduated from Langford High School. After receiving her education, Alvira and some of her friends worked in Minneapolis for a few years at a soda bar. She returned to the local area and worked for Jeffrey and Lilly Haverly at the North Ranch, where she assisted Lilly with meals, cleaning and taking care of their daughter, Lorraine.
- On July 3, 1949, Alvira was united in marriage with Palmer J. Quamen in a double wedding with her sister, Violet and Oren Ausland. Alvira and Palmer made their home on the Quamen family farm, where they spent their married life and raised their two daughters. She loved cooking and baking. Her grandchildren often remarked that Grandma always had something cooking on the stove. In addition to her culinary skills, Alvira was also a talented quilter and had made many quilts for her family, especially her grandchildren.
- Alvira was a member of the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church where she had served as organist for a number of years. Palmer passed away on October 19, 1994, and Alvira moved into an apartment in Britton where she made many good friends. In 2006 she moved herself into Spruce Court Assisted Living and became a resident of Wheatcrest Hills in 2011.
- Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters: Joyce Smith and Ruby (Mike) Hagen; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and their families, whom she dearly loved.
- Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and her sister and brother-in-law.
