- Bio: Elwood Clarence Oien, age 87, of Crosby, ND passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
- Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby with Pastor Emily Shipman officiating. Burial followed at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Crosby.
- Elwood Clarence Oien was born to Emil and Cora (Moum) Oien on April 26, 1929 in Crosby, ND. He grew up on the farm near Crosby in Blooming Prairie Township. He attended Blooming Prairie School, and graduated from Crosby High School in 1947.
- Elwood married Luella Nygaard on December 11, 1953 in Minot, ND. Elwood served in the U.S. Army for two years and lived a short time in Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He was discharged in 1955 and returned to the family farm.
- In 1958, Elwood and a business partner built the Crosby Bowling Lanes and operated it until 1967 when they sold it.
- Elwood loved his farming occupation. He enjoyed having cattle and horses on the farm. Elwood liked to go to the Cenex for coffee early every morning, and drive around to look at the progress of the crops and check out what was going on in the neighborhood. His favorite pastime was attending auction sales to visit with all of the friends he had acquired over the years and add to his collection of trucks and augers.
- Elwood & Luella enjoyed traveling, from California to Canada, fishing and camping. Elwood especially enjoyed a trip with Luella and Sharon to Norway in 1985 to visit the Oien relatives and family farm.
- Elwood was preceded in death by his wife, Luella; his parents, sister Elenora Benter, and grandson, Casey Schilke.
- Elwood is survived by son Douglas (Cheryl) Oien of Crosby; daughter Sharon (Don) Schilke of Corinth and son Gregory (Kari) Oien of Crosby; grandchildren, Caitlin (Kacey) Holm; Keaton Oien and Joran Oien, and a great grandson, Sully Holm. He is also survived by several cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
