- Bio: Eldon V. Oakland, age 81, of Boyceville, Wis., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie, with his family at his side. Eldon fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.Eldon was born October 3, 1926, to Joseph and Lillian (Johnson) Oakland at Hurley, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church in South Dakota. In 1941, he moved with his family, to a dairy farm north of Wheeler, Wis. He attended Dunn County School of Agriculture. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the LST 325 in the South Pacific. When the war ended, Eldon returned to Dunn County.Eldon married Lois Olson on March 27, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Wheeler. They farmed north of Downing until 1954, when they moved to Boyceville. Eldon began work with the Dunn County Highway Department, retiring in 1989. During those years, he was a heavy equipment operator later becoming a supervisor.In 1965, Eldon and Lois purchased the Oakland Ranch northwest of Boyceville. It was the perfect place for Eldon to fulfill his dreams of enjoying his family, planting and harvesting, owning John Deere implements, horseback riding, and most of all welding and repairing farm machinery. He loved to work with metals and was proud of the two wheel trailers he built for others. Eldon also enjoyed waterskiing and winter sports. He built and operated the well-known ski tow on the farm "hill" and countless boys and girls came and played.Eldon enjoyed his years of retirement with friends and neighbors who dropped in for coffee. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville since 1955, and served in several capacities through the years.Eldon is survived by his wife, Lois; sons, Gary (Susan) Oakland of San Diego, Calif., Daniel (Debra) Oakland of Stoughton, Wis.; daughter, Linda (Kamran) Soleimani of Menomonie; long time friend, Joyce Hopkins of Boyceville; foster sons, Steve (Poala) Windsor of Clovis, Calif., Ricky (Ann) Marshall of Aurora, Colo., Douglas (Jo) Faas of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Jessica Oakland, Joseph Oakland, Amy Soleimani, Michelle Soleimani, Heidi Rhay, Mark Soleimani, Jodi Phillips, Josh Windsor, Laura Marshall, Ricky Marshall, Eddie Marshall; and ten great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon and Verdell; sister, JeaNell; mother-in-law and father-in-law; brothers-in-law, Dennis Olson and Henry Betzhold; and family friend, Paul Heim.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville, Wis., with Pastor Brad Peterson officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in the Town of New Haven, Dunn Co., Wis.Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.To express condolences online, please visit obituaries at www.olsonfuneral.com.**********NOTE: Information received from the Sexton of New Haven Cemetery. Recently, Eldon's body was moved to another cemetery. I am not sure of the cemetery he was moved to, One in Chippewa Falls, just not sure of the name.
