Kelly Gene Norton was born February 11, 1955 at Stanley, ND, the son of Gene and Carol Norton. He attended New Town High School and received his diploma in 1974. He married Shawn Niemitalo of Stanley, ND, on February 10, 1978. He worked for Gene Norton Construction from May 1973 to April 1984. He then worked for McKenzie County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator from May 1985 to May 2001. In June of 2001 he began working for Halliburton in Williston in the capacity of driver and operator assistant. He was most recently employed by North Antelope Rochelle in Gillette, WY as a coal miner. He had 27 years of experience in equipment operation with no lost time accidents. Kelly was a squad leader for the National Guard Army from April 1987 until present where he had five years of experience in a Leadership position of twenty soldiers. While in the National Guard he worked as a tracker for McKenzie County Social Services. Kelly passed away of natural causes March 12, 2003 at his home in Watford City.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Norton of WY; three daughters, Shelene (Larry) Parks of England; Kassandra Norton of Williston; and Kelcie Norton of Williston; one grandson, Kaden Parks of England; four brothers, Monte (Toni) Norton of VA; Rocky (Laura) Norton of Watford City; Bradley Norton of WY; and Lance Norton of WY; one sister, Sandra (Dean) Sande of Minot, ND; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, four nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Norton; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
