- Bio: Albert Engebrit Olaus Nass was born on 1 Jun 1864 in Lisbon County, Illinois. His wife, Betsey Louise Eide, was born on 4 Jul 1867 in Mitchell County, Iowa. They were married on 17 Nov 1892 in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa. At the time, Albert, known as A. E. (but his friends called him "Brit"), was in partnership with Ole Eide in the Eide & Nass Hardware in Huxley. The store was located just north, across the street from the depot. Ole was the father of Betsey. Later, A. E. bought out Ole's interest and operated the store as the A. E. Nass Hardware. A. E. and Betsey were the parents of five children. Clara Bergetta Nass, daughter, was born in Huxley on 9 Nov 1893. She married Ben Sheldahl and had two sons, Arlo and Loren. Seward Ole Austin Nass, son, was born in Huxley on 23 Jan 1986. He married Dorothy Fae McGee and had four children; Martin, Betsey, Gloria, and David. He also had a step-daughter, Leila Maddox. Martin Lauritz Nass,son, was born in Huxley on 26 Oct 1987. He married Grace Whitlock and had a daughter, Sarah, and a son, James. Gordon Thorwald Nass,son, was born in Huxley on 24 Dec 1899. He married Kitty Bell Bishop and they had no children. Edwin S. Bernard Nass, son, was born on 30 Mar 1902 in Huxley. He died as an infant four month later on 29 Aug 1902. He is buried in the Nass family plot in the Fjeldberg Cemetery in Huxley, Iowa.Betsey died on consumption on 5 May 1903, about a year following the birth of her son, Edwin. To assist the family during her year of illness, Seward was sent to live one block north of the home with his Eide grandmother. Betsey's sister Aase Magretha Eide, who was 12 years younger, came to live with the family to care for the children. After Betsey's death, Magretha (called Maggie) stayed on with the family. Two years later, A. E. and Maggie were married in the home on 31 Aug 1905. They were the parents of a daughter.Elsie Marvel Nass, daughter, was born on 24 Jun 1909. She was married to Orville Kennedy. They had no children.A. E. died, at age 77, on 3 Mar 1942 of stomach cancer. He is buried in the Nass family plot in the Fjeldberg Cemetery.
