- MADISON, Minn. — Oren Nelson, 87, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in a hospital at Madison.
- Funeral services were today (Wednesday) in the Faith Lutheran Church of Madison with the Rev. Kirk Meseck officiating.
- Burial was in the Garfield Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Huber, Dale Olson, Stan Olson, Archie Shurb and Roger Abramowski.
- Zahrbock Funeral Chapel in Madison was in charge of arrangements.
- Oren Clifford Nelson was born March 16, 1921, on a farm near Canby to Sanford and Elsie (Hatager) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Canby. He attended country school and graduated from Canby High School in 1939.
- He married Marcella Kapinos Oct. 25, 1948, in the Presbyterian Church of Canby. They had one son, Stanley. They bought a farm in Arena Township and farmed their entire lives. He made his home at the Madison Lutheran Home in May of 2007.
- He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, working many years as an usher and was also active on Arena Township Board, FHA Board and Stroke Club. During WWII, he was a member of the Madison Home Guard. He enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, playing cards and bingo, farming and helping out and being with his grandchildren.
- He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella and a baby in infancy.
- Survivors include one son, Stanley and his wife Cheryl Nelson of Madison; two grandchildren; and one brother, Selmer Nelson of Sioux Falls.
