  • Noteringar
    • Bio: Jerry Randall Moen, 82, Sioux Falls, SD died peacefully Sunday, Sept 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
    • Jerry was born November 15, 1933, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Jerry was the only child of Helen M. Moen and Bert E. Moen. Jerrys early years were spent in Iowa: Inwood, Moulton, and Cedar Rapids, where he attended Polk Grade School and McKinley Junior High. In 1948, the Moen Family moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Jerry graduated from Washington High School in January 1952. Jerry attended the University of South Dakota graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1957. Jerry was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. His college years were interrupted when he left USD to train as a United States Air Force pilot. He received training in North Carolina, Texas, and Arizona. He graduated as a US Air Force pilot in August of 1956. Jerry flew with the 114th Tactical Fighter Group of the South Dakota Air National Guard, flying both fighter jets, and later a variety of operational support aircraft. He retired from the Air National Guard in December of 1976, at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
    • In 1959, Jerry met Mary K. Houston, and they were married July 30, 1960. Jerry and Mary K. were married for 56 years, living in Sioux Falls the entire time. Two daughters were born to this union, Andrea and Allison. Jerry fondly referred to the girls as A1 and A2. Jerry was the epitome of a family man. He happily joined the YMCA Indian Princess program--he was Chief Frog, and the girls were Princess Polliwogs. The family enjoyed summer time together at their cabin on Lake Poinsett. Snowmobiling in the winter was a favorite family activity. The family was fortunate to enjoy traveling together. Trips included visits to both the East and West Coasts, Hawaii, and Mexico. A highlight was a Disney Cruise that included the entire family and Mary K.s sister, Nancy, and her family. Jerry and Mary K. enjoyed travels to many parts of the US and the world.
    • Faith was a very important part of Jerrys life. In his youth, Jerry and his parents were active members of First Congregational Church. After Jerry and Mary K. were married, their family became involved members of First Baptist Church. He passed on his love for daily devotional time to his family--for many years, dinner started with reading aloud from a devotional and praying a prayer of thanks.
    • Jerry was associated with Stan Houston Equipment Company for 41 years--loving his work and his co-workers. In 1997 he became President of the company, following the death of his partner, Darwin Beeninga. Jerry retired in 2000 when he sold Stan Houston Equipment Company.
    • Jerry participated in many organizations including Masonic Bodies: Minnehaha Lodge No. 5, 33rd Degree Scottish Rite, El Riad Shrine (Potentate 1990), El Riad Clown Unit (Big Clown 1968), and ROJ. Jerry was a lifetime member of the YMCA and served on the Y Board for many years. He also belonged to the following: Downtown Rotary, Isaac Walton League, United Way, and Sioux Falls Corvette club.
    • Jerrys other interests included swimming from teenage years into old age--he swam 3 times a week. Jerry loved anything with a motor or an engine--airplanes, cars, boats, snowmobiles--even rider lawn mowers. He was an avid fan of auto racing, attending countless sprint car, Indy Car, and Formula One races both domestically and internationally. Jerry loved recreational shooting and hunting pheasants with his father, his friends and his son-in-law, Brad.
    • Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mary K., and his daughters, Andrea Moen, Georgetown, TX and Allison Johnson, her husband, Brad, and their children Kathleen and Randall Johnson, Ottawa Hills, OH., brother-in-law, Kent Musegades, Rapid City SD, nieces, Stefanie Adams (sons Tommy and Jake), Plymouth, MN, and Meredith Volesky (son Alec), Rapid City, SD.

    • Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Nancy Musegades, nephew, Andrew Musegades, and many cousins.

    • The family wishes to thank the staffs of Covington Heights Rehabilitation Center, Avera McKennan Hospital, and Dougherty Hospice House for all the tender loving care that they provided to Jerry and our family.
