- Bio: LaVerne (Mattson) Miller, 86, of Ashland, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn. She was born on Nov. 1, 1930 in Ashland, the daughter of Bertram and Adeline (Johnson) Mattson.
- LaVerne graduated from Ashland High School in 1949. She married Richard “Mouse” Miller on Dec. 2, 1950 in Ashland. LaVerne was a housewife and a loving wife and mother, always helping her children and grandchildren. She was a friend to many and enjoyed helping with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. LaVerne was an avid Packer fan and was known to bang a kettle when they got a touchdown. She was also an avid gardener.
- She is survived by a brother, Donald Mattson – Barksdale, a sister, Sandy (Barney) Fronczak – Weyauwega, two sons, Rick (Patti) Miller – Oshkosh and Terry Miller – Ashland, three daughters, Kim Welty – Ashland, Julie (Dale) Hakamaki – Wakefield, MI and Beth Miller – Ashland, 14 grandchildren, Jason, Jesse and Taylor (Lacey) Welty, Jody (Scott) Markel, Jeremy Miller, Jillian and Jared Jensen, Erick Hakamaki, Paula and Myriah Miller, Nikki Geiger, Nathan (Jaki) Faulk and Thomas and Emily Traxler, 19 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Dylan, Cooper, Harper, Serenity, Nick, Samantha, Justin, Amber, Phoebe, Trinity, Lillianna, Lexis, Carter, Kira, Aidan, Nakari, Olivia and Shane, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
- She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Mouse” Miller, father, Bert (Genevieve) Mattson, mother, Adeline Mattson, daughter, Jody Miller, two sisters, Joyce Johnson and Mary Jean Dins, two brothers-in-law, Donald Miler and Chuck Dins, mother-in-law, Veronica (Bartol) Miller, two sisters-in-law, Carol Benedict and Rosalind Miller, a granddaughter, Krista Tobaka and numerous aunts and uncles.
- A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ashland, with Pastor Dale Chesley officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday at the church. Burial at the St. Agnes Cemetery, will follow the lunch.
