- Bio: Larry Lyle Marshall, 58, Rapid City, SD died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO.Larry was born on February 12, 1951 to Theone and Lyle Marshall in Huron, SD. He grew up in the Hitchcock & Bonilla areas and graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1969.On December 9, 1972, Larry married Cindy Buchholz in Redfield, SD and they began farming until 1980 when they moved to Sierra Leone, West Africa as missionaries.He continued in mission ministries for 23 years. He spent 5 years in Sierra Leone, 7 years in the inner city of Chicago, 6 years working with Native American ministries, 3 years in Mozambique, and 2 years in Liberia.He loved helping the poor and was a strong advocate for them. In Africa, he planted churches, built schools, drilled wells, started animal multiplication projects, and trained drilling teams in other African countries. In Chicago, he was the director for a residential drug and alcohol treatment program for the homeless. While working with the Native Americans he was in charge of the volunteer program, and then later became the Director.In the middle of the 23 year period, he received as Associate's Degree in Cross Cultural Ministries from Bartlesville Wesleyan at Bartlesville, OK.Survivors include his wife, Cindy Marshall, Rapid City; children, Nathan (Charity) Marshall, Lakenheath AFB, England, Aaron (Carisa) Marshall, Rapid City, Jordan (Kim) Marshall, Rapid City, Demetrious Reed, Rapid City; sisters, Sandy (Roger) Kissner, Huron, SD, Marlis (Bill) Costello, Alexandria, MN; brother, Jack (Midge) Marshall, Huron, SD; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenny Marshall; and niece, Sherrie.Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a public prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Open Bible Christian Center in the gymnasium with Pastor Steve Selfridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established
