- Bio: Erling Narum Magnesen, 94, passed away August 9, 2001 at the home of his son.Born June 23, 1907 in Voss, Norway, to Ivar Gundrsen and Elizabeth Narum Mikkelsen. Later adopted by Edwind and Ingeborg Magnesen. He married Gerd R. Hansen on April 9, 1943 in Bergen, Norway. Later solemnized August 16, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He went to sea at the age of 14, lived in Brooklyn, New York for five years and returned to Norway during the Depression. He converted to the LDS religion in Norway and served as Bergen Branch president. He served a mission in Norway. He immigrated back to the USA in 1948 with his wife Gerd and son Gary and worked as a translator for the LDS Church. He served another mission to Norway with his wife from 1975 to 1977. He was very active in his ward and stake.He was a great father and his company will be sadly missed.Survivors: sons Gary (Diane) and Dean (Jennifer), UT; nephew and niece Arthur Narum and Berit Bugge, Norway; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at 10 a.m., at the Ensign 3rd Ward Chapel, 9th Avenue & K Street. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and one hour prior to services at the ward. Interment will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
