- Bio: Hazel K. Bottum
WESSINGTON Hazel K. Bottum, 80, of Wessington, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1991, at
the home of her daughter, Janet Fritzsche, at Miller.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian church of
Wessington, with the Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be in the
Wessington Cemetery.
Hazel Katherine Lingscheit was born Jan. 30, 1911, to John and Elizabeth
(Nerland) Lingscheit at Parkston. In 1917 the family moved to a ranch southwest
of Ree Heights. She attended country school and graduated from Ree Heights High
School. She went on to Northern State College and taught several years in Ree
Heights, Wessington, and country schools in Hand County.
She was an active member and held many offices in the First Presbyterian Church,
Presbyterian Women, the Wessington Women's Study Club, American Legion
Auxiliary, Bluegrass Barracks, and was a charter member of the Sunshine Senior
Center in Wessington.
Survivors include one son, David Bottum of Morrison, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs.
Douglas (Janet) Fritzsche of Miller; five grandchildren, two brothers, Joe and
Wilbur Lingscheit, both of Ree Heights; and one sister, Mrs. R.J. (Evelyn)
Froning of Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 23, 21983, her parents, two
sisters, Norma Frary and Dorothy Edberg.
Pallbearers will be John Froning, Tom and John Lingscheit, Roger, Donald and
Richard Bottum.
