- Bio: Ms. Esther L. Haakenson, of Homer, Alaksa, died March 12, 2013, at the Main Street Assisted Living in Homer. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Laura Larson. Ms. Haakenson worked in varied areas: waitress, nanny, postal employee and beaver trapper. She married her beloved Lionel Haakenson in 1943 and they soon settled in Anchorage, Alaksa. In 1955, the family moved to Anchor Point and she lived there till 2012, when poor health caused her to moved to assisted living. She was a good cook, story teller and loved her family.
- Ms. Haakenson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years: Lionel Haakenson; 1 son: Jim Haakenson; 2 sisters: Alice Dahl and Gladys Dixon; and 2 brothers: Laurence Larson and Leonard Larson.
She is survived by 5 sons: Tim Haaakenson and his wife: Melody, Robert Haakenson and his wife: Diana, John Haakenson and his wife:Celeste, Ken Haakenson and Ron Haakenson and his wife: Lisa; 1 daughter: Mary Perry and her husband: Charlie; her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and many dear friends.
- A Memorial Service was held on Friday afternoon, April 13, 2013, at Chapman School in Anchor Point, Alaksa.
