- Bio: Edward LeRoy Larson passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, Iowa. Edward and his twin sister Lucille were born June 9, 1926 to Lewis and Isabelle (Dobbe) Larson at their farm in Polk County. Ed grew up on the farm, was baptized and confirmed at Palestine Lutheran Church. He graduated from Huxley High School where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player.Ed married Ruth Lee on August 14, 1948 and together they operated the home farm until their retirement. Ed had a beautiful bass voice and participated in music groups throughout his life including church, community choirs and barbershop quartets. Ed was a lifelong sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa State Cyclones. In retirement Ed enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona.Ed was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings, Inez Estrem, Robert Larson, Dorothy Johnson, Kathryn Moore and twin Lucille Erickson.Left to mourn Ed are his wife of 69 years, Ruth; daughter, Jane (Ralph) Ross; son, Paul (Deana Voth); grandchildren, Joel (Esther) Fischer, Sarah (Eric) Roane, and Christopher (Sheena) Fischer; great-grandchildren Amy, Zoe, Will, Evelyn, and Lucille.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church.
