- Bio: Audrey Louise Aurit, 82, Steele, died March 12, 2006, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with the Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele, at a later date.
- There will be no visitation, as Audrey gifted her body to UND School of Medicine and Cell Biology under the deeded body program.
- Audrey was born May 21, 1923, in Bismarck, to Albert and Anna (Kowalski) Langedahl. She graduated from Tuttle High School in 1940, and Interstate Business College in Fargo. She received an Elementary Teachers Certificate in 1945. During W.W. II, she was a gray lady at St. John's Hospital, Fargo, and also volunteered at the USO in Fargo. Audrey married James K. McAleer Jr. July 19, 1945, and he died in 1968. After his death, she worked at BEK Telephone for many years. She married Donald Aurit Aug. 19, 1978, he died in 1980. In her retirement years she worked part-time at Golden Manor, Steele.
- Audrey volunteered for many organizations and received the JC Penney Golden Rule Award in 1991, NDNA Award in 1997, and Five-Year Service Award from Golden Manor Nursing Home in October 2001. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, Bismarck, Kidder County Historical Society, Golden Age Club, Active Seniors, Gold Star Mother of VFW and American Legion Auxiliary.
- She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila (Dennis) Kautzman, Port Huron, Mich., Diane (Greg) Maier, New Salem, and Maureen (Dean) Eichele, Steele; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allan (Eileen) McAleer, Fargo, and Rodger (Peggy) McAleer, Moorhead, Minn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Donald) Hoare, Mt. Vernon, Wash.; 14 grandchildren, Sean (Trish) Kautzman, Sarah Kautzman, Scott Kautzman, Mary Ann (Harold) Knutson, Maggie (Dan) Lindquist, Melanie (Allen) Nilles, James Franciere, Amy Maier, Lacey Maier, Brianna McAleer, A.J. McAleer, Berkley Brun, Lucas Brun and Trevor Brun; two step-grandchildren, Robert Eichele, and James Eichele; five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Knutson, Aubri Knutson, Maegan Larson, Sydney Nilles and Riley Kautzman; and one step-great-grandchild, Trinity Eichele.
- Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Warrant Officer James McAleer III; one sister, Laurel Kanchy; infant son, John; grandson, Matthew Franciere; granddaughter, Katie Joe Maier; and infant brothers, John, Jerome and Michael Langedahl.
