- Alma Nelson, age 97, of Canby passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.
- Funeral service were held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby. Burial was in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens, Montevideo, MN.
Alma Sophie Marie Laabs was born May 14, 1914 to Herman and Marie (Jarchow) Laabs in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota.
- On September 7, 1932 she was united in marriage to William Nelson at Zaccheus Lutheran Church, Canby, Minnesota. She received mother of the year award in the Eagles Club two times.
- She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, WELCA, Gary Legion Auxiliary and VFW. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, fishing, watching NASCAR, and embroidering. Most of all she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and attending all their activities and sports they were involved with.
- Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Roger (Lyla) Nelson of Canby, MN, Larris (Joanne) Nelson of Canby, MN, Elonne (Russ) Winter of Slayton, MN, and son-in-law Rick Winter; thirteen grandchildren: Brett (Jamie) Nelson, Bonnie (Chuck) Moberg, Rick (Sherry) Nelson, Dawn (Bill) Wernisch, Delaine Nelson, Chad (Rhonda) Nelson, Craig (Christine) Nelson, Corey (Allison) Nelson, Troy (Beth Ann) Winter, Scott (Heidi) Winter, Jeremy (Kim) Winter, Travis (Tracy) Winter and Derek (Amanda) Winter; 42 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
- She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Herman and Marie Laabs; daughter, Deb Winter; son, Ron Nelson; granddaughter, Kelly Winter; grandson, David R. Nelson; daughter-in-law, Sharon Nelson; five brothers, and four sisters.
