- Bio: ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Loran Kyle, 80, of Rock Rapids died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Rock Rapids.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with military rites conducted by Van Anne-Fields VFW Post 6960 and the Rex Strait American Legion Post 103 of Rock Rapids. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. [Obituary (edited) published in the Sioux City Journal (Iowa), Saturday, September 9, 2006]Loran Dale Kyle was born on January 27, 1926 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Knut and Verna (Jensen) Kyle. He attended and graduated from Rock Rapids High School. In 1944, Loran served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and served overseas in the Philippines and the Pacific, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. On June 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Harries in Sutherland, Iowa. Loran worked for the US West Phone Company for 38 1/2 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Loran enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, attending grandsons' activities and following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Yankees, and the Chicago Bears. Loran is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Kyle of Rock Rapids; two children; four grandchildren; three siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
