- Bio: Marjorie (Marjie) Merle Kezlan Stewart went to heaven on January 3, 2012. She was 96.
- She had a long life full of service to her Lord, her family and her friends. A petite, quiet, brown eyed brunette, she was the perfect match for her out-going, gregarious husband. No matter where they lived, their home was filled with company whether for Sunday dinner or playing games on a Friday night. Maynard invited the company; Marjie fed them and enjoyed the fun as much as he did. Always kind and selfless, she was loved by all who knew her.
- Marjorie's life began on May 4, 1915 in Newman Grove, Nebraska. Her mother, Sarah Alice Nelson, was of Norwegian descent. Her father, Ed Kezlan, was a recent immigrant from Syria. Marjorie's father died when she was four, leaving her mother with four children under the age of six. Sarah (Sadie) took in laundry and her girls, Jessie and Marjie, had jobs before or after school from the time they were 12.
- Just after Marjorie graduated from high school, her mother went blind, so Marjorie became the sole support of the family. Marjorie had fallen in love with Maynard Stewart, but drought and the Depression had removed all hope of Maynard being able to support a wife in Newman Grove. So in 1936, Maynard hitched a ride west to Walla Walla, WA, promising Marjorie he would bring her from Nebraska as soon as he could. It was four years before they were married in Walla Walla on September 10, 1940.
- In 1941, they moved to Seattle where they would spend the next 53 years. Their two children would be born there. Their life was centered around the First Church of the Nazarene and their church family. Marjorie was the preschool Sunday school teacher for many years. Later Maynard and she were the teen sponsors.
- Marjorie was a stay-at-home mom when her children were small, then she went to work at the University of Washington hospital for a number of years. She retired early from her job as the postmistress of the campus post office at Seattle Pacific College so she could be in Alaska with Maynard while he worked on the TransAlaska Pipeline.
- After Maynard retired in 1980 they did a lot of traveling; to Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii and around the U.S. in their motor home. They moved to Nampa in 1993. Her beloved Maynard passed away in 2003 after nearly 63 years of marriage.
- Marjorie is survived by her son, Ted (Carole) Stewart, of Green Valley, AZ; daughter, Donna (Evert) Schmelzenbach, of Nampa, ID; grandchildren: Todd and Buffy Stewart, of Seattle, Erin (Dave) McEwen, of Bothell, Garrett (Karla) Schmelzenbach, of Meridian, ID, Lane (Elena) Schmelzenbach, of Boise, ID, and LeeAnn Schmelzenbach, of Kodiak, AK; great-grandchildren: Trey Stewart; Douglas and Donna McEwen; Abbi and Marlee Schmelzenbach; Thomas, Mary Kate and Natalie Schmelzenbach; stepgrandchildren: Tanda Bundy (son Kade) of Springfield, MO, Leisa Youngman (son Dakota), of Phoenix, AZ, and Brent (Laurie) Bundy (daughter Nichole, son Erik) of Lake Stevens.
- Funeral services will be at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 Tenth Avenue South, Nampa, on Monday, January 9th, at 3:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:00 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 11111 Aurora Avenue South, Seattle, Washington.
