    • Bio: Donald Lee Kasl, age 90 of Chester, NE passed away Saturday, August 8th, 2015 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, KS. He was born to William and Anna (Cherney) Kasl on October 25th, 1934 at his parents' home in Wayne, KS.
He attended grade school, first at White Country School outside of Cuba, KS and later went to the Kunael Country School outside of Wayne, KS. Don graduated in 1953 from Cuba High School, Cuba, KS. He would often tell his daughters about riding his horse Nancy to and from school.
After graduation he worked for the Rock Island Railroad. In 1959 at a dance he found his true love Barbara Kleveland. After only dating a few short months they were married on March 10th, 1960 at the Church of Christ in Chester. Over the next ten years they were blessed with 5 daughters - Dawn Rozelle, Sheila Rachelle, Lisa Ranelle, Audra Roxelle and Coleen Racquelle.
The first year of marriage they lived in Belleville, KS and later moved to the farm in Chester. Don started working for his father-in-law farming in 1965. Growing up Don helped his father farm, so getting back to farming was Don's true passion. Don also loved playing cards, bowling and riding horses.
Don was baptized in February of 1980 along with his 3 oldest daughters at the Church of Christ in Chester. He remained a member there serving as a deacon for many years until the closing of the church. He then transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church in Chester. Don was also a member of the Chester Saddle Club and Chester Volunteer Fire Department.
In August of 2005 his wife suffered a massive stroke so Don became her full-time care taker and retired from the farm. Don continued his passion for farming by helping Scott Mumm and other local farmers. Don farmed every chance he got. Even though days became harder for him to get around, Scott made sure Don got in that combine for harvest. Don often referred to this as his "therapy".
When Barb moved to the nursing home in 2013 Don made it part of his daily routine to visit her. Not a day would go by that he didn't long for her to come back home.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family and his special beloved dog "Peanut". You would often see Don and Peanut cruising the streets of Chester making sure everyone was safe. He also enjoyed hearing about his grandchildren's accomplishments.
Don is proceeded in death by his parents William and Anna (Cherney) Kasl. His in-laws E.H. (Shorty) and Rozelle Kleveland, brother-in-laws, Frank Janousek and Tony Gonzales.
