- Ales Jonsdotter Soellsvik was the daughter of Jon Jonsson Slakje and Margaret Sviensdotter.
- She married Christian Christianson on April 5, 1835, in the Skanevik Church, Skanevik, Hordaland.
- On April 14, 1847, Ales, her husband and their children (Ingebor, John, Ole and Tjerand) left Norway on the sailing vessel Kong Sverre under Captain Fisher. There were 161 passengers on board, about half and half from Skaannevig and Etne, Norway. They landed in New York on June 24, 1847. From New York they went by steamboat to Troy, New York. In Troy they were sent onboard two canal boats along the Erie Canal to Buffalo, New York.
- When they got to Buffalo, they again boarded a steamer boat for the trip across the Great Lakes to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago they hired teams and wagons to haul them up to Lisbon in Big Grove Township, Kendall County, Illinois. This took four days. They arrived in Lisbon on July 11, 1847.
- The family did not stay in Big Grove Township long. They got shelter for a while with the Nelson's near Fox River close to present day of Norway in LaSalle County, Illinois. However, their oldest son, Christian, being of age remained behind in Big Grove. They soon bought a house and four acres of ground, two of which were black land near the South End of Big Grove, back again in Kendall County. "There they lived for four years, someone most always being sick."
- They moved their log house to a place one-third of a mile from Helmar, in Kendall County, Illinois where they lived for another four years. Then they moved east of Helmar about two-third miles where they lived up to the time of her husband's death.
- After her husband's death, she lived for a few years on the old homestead near Helmar. In the 1865 census she was living there with her sons Charles and Ole. In 1870 she was living with her son Ole and family in Kendall Township. She later moved to Iowa where she made her home with her son John near Roland in Story County where she is found in the 1885 census the year before her death. She died on August 16, 1886 in Story City, Story County, Iowa. She was buried in Roland Cemetery, Roland, Story County, Iowa.
