- Bio: Stratford CourierJanuary 6, 1949Frozen Body of Local Farmer Found Near His HomeThe frozen body of Len A. Johnson, a well-known farmer of this community, was found New Year's morning near his home southeast of Stratford. The body was discovered by Marvin Carlson, who farms the land, and was found near the bottom of a slight hill. Sheriff Lear's theory was that after Mr. Johnson had been brought home Thursday evening by a friend he had apparently slipped and fallen and that in the fall he was knocked unconscious and froze to death.Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Foster funeral home at Webster City, with the Rev. C.F. Schmidt of Stanhope officiating. Burial was made in the South Marion cemetery.ObituaryLeonard Amos Johnson, son of Charles and Sophia Johnson, was born Nov. 19, 1877, on the farm four miles southeast of Stratford which was his home most of his life. He was educated and reared in that community.On March, 1917, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Amanda Johnson and the couple farmed near Stratford. Following her death in 1936, he moved back to the home place southeast of Stratford.Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Sexton Johnson, and also his parents. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Norman Madson of Britt, Iowa, and by two grandchildren, Karen and Roger Madson.
