    • Bio: On Thursday evening, April 2, 1953, John R. Johnson passed away at the home of his sister Mrs. Frank Abraham of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. John and his wife Ruth were enroute from Clearwater, Florida, to their home at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He had seemed much improved in health after his vacation in Florida. John R. Johnson was born May 17,1883 on a farm near Eagle Grove. He was the fourth son of eight children born to Rier and Karle Johnson. He received his education in the rural schools of Humboldt county, Jewell Lutheran College and Humboldt College. John was an outstanding student and his diligence as a student benefited him all through life.On December 30, 1925, he was united in marriage to Ruth Nessa of Thor, Iowa.John had not been well for several years and in February of this year retired from active farming. He was exceptionally interested in civic affairs and took a keen interest in business. The past year he built a beautiful home, and it was his joy to share it with his relatives and friends.John was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a member of the Samuel Lutheran church here. He was reared in a home that placed a deep religious emphasis on life. John had no fear of death. As he anticipated leaving this present life, he indicated that his hope of a better life in the future, was by faith in Jesus Christ who had redeemed him by His suffering and death, on the cross. He often said, "It is not the length of life that matters but how it is lived."John was always kind and considerate in the home. He was loved by his friends and respected by his business associate.John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rose. He is survived by his wife Ruth, two brothers, Lars and Carl of Eagle Grove, Ia., four sisters Tillie Smith and Leva Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Cora (Mrs. Frank Abraham) of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Anna (Mrs. Carl Hoveland) of Humboldt, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held from the John R. Johnson home Tuesday, April 7, 1953 at 1:30 p. m. and from Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church at 2:00 p. m. Pastor B. F. Molstre officiated. A mixed quartette H. J.
