- Bio: NEWMAN GROVE DeForrest "Goody" Johnson, 74, of Newman Grove died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove with the Rev. Neal Von Seggern officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 73. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at the Newman Grove Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Newman Grove to John 0. and Martha (Gayle) Johnson. He attended rural school at Madison County District 62. He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1943. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46. He married Clara Schroeter March 30, 1951, in Yankton, S.D. He was a member of the church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 73. He started farming in 1947, retiring from farming in 1991 and became an over-the-road trucker. His enjoyed fishing, blue rock shooting, camping and playing Euchre. Survivors include his wife; three sons, John (Claire) and Tom (Kim), all of Newman Grove, and Michael (Sheryl) of Leigh; two daughters, Peggy (Jeff) Wright of Washington and Joni of Lincoln; one brother, Harlan "Bouncer" (Lorraine) of Newman Grove; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant daughters.
