- Bio: Duane D. Johnson, 86, of Somonauk, IL passed away, Friday, January 2, 2009 at his home.
- He was born October 23, 1922 in Waterman, IL, the son of C.J. and Mae (Benson) Johnson. He attended the Coultrip Country School, where later he served on the board; He graduated from Leland High School, and attended the University of Illinois.
- He married Margaret J. Herzog on July 11, 1942. He was an active member of the Union Congregational Church in Somonauk, Somonauk Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, National Rifle Association, Volunteer fireman in Somonauk for many years, Tri-County Board of Realty, Board member of Farmers State Bank. Duane farmed in the Leland area for several years, he and Jean developed Hi-Tide in 1964 and enjoyed running it for 14 years, he founded Somonauk Insurance and Realty in 1958.
- He loved to travel, trap shoot, ride his motorcycle, play the organ, refinish antiques, and woodcarving.
- He is survived by his wife, Jean of 66 years; three daughters, Patricia (John) Groves of Bloomington, IL, Susan (Paul) Larson of Leland, IL, and Cyd (Bill) Henrikson of Peoria, IL; one son, Michael (Ruth) Johnson of Leland, IL; 12 grandchildren, Jay (Conni) Anderson of Leland, Rachel Cannon of Bloomington, Josh (Blanca) Marcum of Virginia Beach, VA, Suzanne (Brian) Ashworth of OH, Kevin (Michelle) Larson of Waterman, Andrew (Christy) Larson of Belvidere, Seth (Laura) Henrikson of Chicago, Emily Henrikson of Peoria, Jeremiah, Sara and Jessica Johnson all of Leland; and 15 great-grandchildren.
- He was preceded in death by his parents.
- Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Union Congregational Church in Somonauk, IL with Reverend Robert Dell officiating. Private burial will follow in Little Indian Creek Cemetery in rural Leland. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 6th at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with a Masonic service at 6:00 p.m.
