- Bio: Adair Flatness, 94, of Bowman, ND, formerly of Marmarth, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the West River Regional Hospital in Hettinger, ND. Funeral Services for Adair will be on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center Chapel in Bowman. Pastor Galen Strand will officiate with burial to follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Marmarth, ND. Born May 11, 1919 at the family home on River Street in Marmarth, ND to Guy and Hazel (White) Johnson, Adair grew up in Marmarth and graduated from Marmarth High School in 1936. She continued her education in Grand Forks, ND as well as in Billings, MT. Adair taught elementary school for 43 years touching the lives of several generations of families in the area. An adored teacher, she was especially known for her amazing school Christmas programs, operettas and talent shows. She was an avid piano player and was known for her rag-time piano playing and swinging church hymns. On April 18, 1942 Adair married the love of her life, Maurice Flatness, in Billings, MT. They moved to Marmarth where they ranched and raised their three children, Sandra, Sonja and Kent, until moving to Bowman in 2005.
- A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Adair was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; parents Guy and Hazel Johnson; and grandson, Brent McNeill. She is survived by her son Kent Flatness of Bowman, ND; daughters Sandra (Dan) McNeill, of Chinook, MT and Sonja (Jack) Brock of Paris, KY; grandchildren Courtney (Bill) Bell of Chinook, MT, Guy (Pam) Brock of Louisville, KY, Hugh (Hilary) Brock of Albuquerque, NM, Jed (fiance Jordan) Brock of Marmarth, ND; great grandchildren Mariah, Derek, Haily and Ryan Bell; Maxwell, Wesley, Claire and Maisy Brock; bother Robert (Mel) Johnson of Eden Prairie, MN; cousins Merle (Linda) Clark of Marmarth, ND and Melinda (Dick) Elledge-Sheehan of Stillwater, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
