NEWMAN GROVE — Services for Margaret H. (Jensen) Christensen, 96, Newman Grove, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at Newman Grove.
- Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Newman Grove Memorial Funeral Home.
She died Monday, March 12, 2018, at Boone County Hospital in Albion.
1921-2018
- Margaret Helga (Jensen) was born on Aug. 21, 1921, to Nels and Bessie (Sapp) Jensen in rural Boone County. She was raised in rural Boone County and attended School District 8 through eighth grade. She attended School District 65 through the 10th grade and graduated from Newman Grove High School with the class of 1939. Following graduation, she taught in rural schools in Boone County for three years.
On Dec. 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Duane Christensen at Albion. They lived and farmed in rural Platte County until 1958. To this union, three daughters were born: Deanna, Linda and Kathleen. In 1958, they moved to Newman Grove, where Margaret was employed as a clerk at Minnegasco Natural Gas Co. She continued to work for this company in Newman Grove, Madison and Norfolk for 24 years. She retired in 1982, when they moved back to Newman Grove.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Newman Grove.
Margaret was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing cards, reading, puzzle word finds, bowling and especially spending time with family and friends.
Margaret entered The Newman House in Newman Grove in May of 2011, and later, the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home, where she still resided.
- She is survived by her daughters, Deanna (Gale) Barnes of Columbus, Linda Patzel of Newman Grove and Kathleen (Larry) Rasmussen of Albion. She had 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are in-laws Herman and Norma Christensen and Kathleen Christensen.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Duane in 2002; her parents, Nels and Bessie; her siblings, Leonard (Patty) Jensen, Arnold (Betty) Jensen, Betty June (Ron) Stone and Thelma (Kermit) Cederlind; a son-in-law, Gary Patzel; a grandson, Jeffrey Barnes; and her in-laws, Herman and Salvina Christensen, Evelyn and Clifford Jensen, Garnet and Bill Pelter, Doug and Lucille Christensen, Clay Christensen and Dale Christensen.
