- Bio: Jane Hanson, 97, of Mayville, ND died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.
- Jane Lorene Jacobson was born in rural Finley, North Dakota on October 26, 1917, the daughter of Severt and Ella Jacobson. She went to grade school at New Bergen #3 and graduated from Finley High School in 1936. She was the 13th of 16 children born to Severt and Ella.
- Jane married Oscar L. Hanson in Dilworth, MN in September of 1940. They lived on the farm northeast of Hillsboro for 15 years, then moved into Hillsboro and operated the Bluebird Café for five years. Jane cooked in restaurants and food service facilities all of her life including the Red Apple and the Green Mill in Fargo, the Hi-10 restaurant in West Fargo, and finished her career as a cook in the food service at Mayville State University. She was known for making delicious lefse for the Mayville-Portland communities for many years, the “Lefse Lady”. Jane enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and baking wonderful Scandinavian meals and treats. However, first in her heart was her family. She treasured the times family got together and she enjoyed preparing delicious meals that she seemed to prepare effortlessly. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
- Jane is survived by her sister Florence, children: Margaret Wyand, Dr. Dick Hanson and Dr. Jon Hanson. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
