Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 17th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Church 1 hour prior to Services.
    • Signe Alice Hovick was born August 3, 1912 in Madison, MN, daughter of Charles and Inger Pauline (Braaten) Hovick. She spent her first 13 years in Madison and moved with her family to Northfield in 1925. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1931 and St. Olaf College in 1935 with a major in Art and minor in Biology. Signe then began working for WCAL Radio at St. Olaf as secretary and accompanying vocalists on the piano.
    • While working as an accompanist she met Eldon Cyrus Christeson, also a St. Olaf student, and they were married June 21, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield. They made their home in Northfield and in addition to raising their three daughters, Signe was the secretary to the Director of Admissions at St. Olaf College for over 30 years, retiring in 1974.
    • She and Eldon were longtime members of St. John's and enjoyed camping and fishing up north and at Lake Shetek near Tracy. Signe was an avid painter in both oil and charcoal, an excellent cook, spent many hours in her garden, and liked to travel with her two sisters. In retirement she and Eldon began working together with stained glass and making Christmas ornaments, angels, and window hangings. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle person and was very appreciative of everyone's help in her later years.
    • Signe is survived by daughters Gretchen Freeman of Burnsville, Lola Moberg of Apple Valley, Wendy Ostlund of Montgomery, AL; sister Charlotte Lohman of Minneapolis; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Eldon Christeson and Jason Austin; sister Mildred Monge; brother Tarald Hovick; and great grandson Landon Moberg.
    • Memorials to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research Center in Rochester. Arrangements by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
