- Bio: Additional information provided by Rich RobinsonNoah Sigvald Hovick was born on April 9, 1908, a son of Nels T. and Susan Warra Hovick in Madison, Minn. In early infancy he received the rite of baptism at the Madison Lutheran church and renewed these baptismal vows in the rite of confirmation at Clarkfield Lutheran church, Clarkfield, Minn.As a lad, he spent some of his formative years in Clarkville and later moved to Madison, with his family. He graduated from the Lutheran Normal School at Madison, and later attended Waldorf College and graduated from a business course in 1928. For a short while he worked in the courthouse in Madison. On June 16, 1937, he was united in marriage with Sophia Urdahl, and the new family began farming in Russell, Minn. One son blessed this union, but at the age of four years he passed away.In 1942 the family moved to Sioux Rapids and this has been his home for the past 30 years. He had worked for the Iowa Council of Alcoholics for 16 years and then due to his failing health had to retire. Repeated attacks of illness and numerous trips to the hospital were well known to him.On Feb. 15, he was taken to the Spencer Municipal hospital and it was here that he passed away on Friday, Feb. 18, 1972, at the age of 63 years, 10 months and nine days.He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, two brothers and one sister.Noah leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Sophia; two brothers, Ingvald of Edmonds, Wash., and Rudolph of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ememlia Christensen of Fairbury, Ill., and Miss Ingrid Hovick of Washington, D. C., also three sisters-in-law, eighteen nieces and nephews, 30 grand nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
