- The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church at Rugby for Peter J. Hornstein, 60, Pierce County commissioner and member of the county Social Service Board who died Wednesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery with rites by Clarence Larson Post No. 23 of the American Legion at Rugby.
- Rosary recitations are scheduled at the church tonight at 7:30 for members of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Christian Mothers and at 8 for the public.
- Born May 26, 1919, near Rugby, Mr. Hornstein had lived virtually all of his life in Pierce County. He farmed during his adult life.
- During World War II, he served with the North Dakota National Guard, and while on active duty with the Army, under Gen. George Patton as a tank driver in central Europe. He earned the Bronze Star.
- He was appointed to the county commission in January. Previously, he was a member of the Meyer Township Board in Pierce County, and for 10 years, he had served on the Pierce County Selective Service Board. He was a member of the Rugby American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge, and the Minot Elks Lodge.
- He married Florence Larson Nov. 6, 1945, at Bismarck. They lived on their farm near Rugby until 1962, when they moved in to Rugby.
- Surviving: wife; daughter, Gail, Bozeman, Mont.; son, Robert, Pleasant Lake; three grandchildren; brothers, Paul, Rugby, and Frank, Crary; sisters, Mrs. Anne Gebhardt, Thompson Falls, Mont., Mrs. Theresa Schaan, Balta, Mrs. Barbara Stall, Loogootee, Ind., and Mrs. Alice Myrum, Devils Lake.
- Friends may call at Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby, until 6 tonight and at the church after 7 p.m.
