  • Noteringar
    • Bio: Passed away November 2, 2017 after a short illness, was the beloved wife of the late A. Earl Mannes (1917-1994), mother to Michael (Cynthia), Kathy Gaynor, and Karen (Richard) Phillips, and grandmother to Emily, Kevin (Stefanie), and Kelly Mannes, and Michelle, Michael, and Kevin Phillips.
Barbara was born May 23, 1929 in Lancaster, PA to Eliza (nee Bair) and Raymond Holder. She grew up in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Western High School in 1947. Her parents ran a rooming house during World War II, and there she met a lodger from North Dakota, Earl Mannes, who later served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, they married in 1947 in St. Louis where Earl would go on to work for Sverdrup Corp. for 35 years.
Barbara participated in dramatics in high school and later enjoyed doing programs for various churches, schools, and organizations throughout the metro area, donating the proceeds to her favorite charities. She joined PEO Chapter FX in 1964 and considered its members the sisters that she never had growing up as an only child. She was also a longtime member of United Methodist Women, Gamma Circle, and Kirkwood United Methodist Church.
Barbara enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—spending time with her family, eating out, going to movies, reading a good book, and whipping out her coupons to score a great bargain. She will be missed by her family who are grateful for her love and the many wonderful memories of their time together.
