- Bio: Mabel Christine Schmidt was born in Lyon County, Iowa, near Larchwood, on Jan. 25, 1915, the daughter of Julius and Inga (Cleven) Hoff. She grew up on farms near Larchwood and Madison, SD. She attended rural school at Larchwood and Brookings Agricultural School in Brooking. Prior to her marriage she worked at the School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls.
- On Feb. 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Raymond Schmidt in Sioux Falls. The made their home and spent their entire married life on the family farm near Lennox.
- Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers: Wallace Hoff and Lloyd Hoff, and one sister : Pearl Hoff.
- Following a lengthy illness, Mabel died at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Dec. 14, 1989. She attained the age of 74 years, ten months and 19 days.
- Grateful for sharing her life are here widower, Ray; two sons and their wives: Jim and Marlys Schmidt of Sioux Falls, and Verlyn and Debbie Schmidt of Lennox; five grandchildren: Anthony Schmidt, Ami, Kellie, Anne and Jessica Schmidt, and one sister: Mrs. Dean (Joyce) Weber of Casper, WY.
