- Bio: Source: Myers Funeral HomeMerrill Jon Charles Helvie, 45 of Huntington died at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at his home. Following high school he entered the Army National Guard and later was discharged from the United States Army. For about 10 years he worked the Texas oil fields for FWA Drilling Company. He later returned to Huntington and worked as a roofer for McGuff's Roofing. For the past 6 years he worked for Homier Distribution Corporation in the tractor assembly plant on Sabine Street. He enjoyed family gatherings and going fishing. He was born on June 19, 1962 in Huntington, a son of Merrill Eugene and Irene Kristine (Lundegard) Helvie. Survivors include two sisters: Mrs. David (Kathy) Shultz of Huntington, Mrs. Roger (Gwen) Sink of Kokomo, five brothers: James and wife Connie Helvie of Huntington, Daniel Helvie of Jacksonville, FL, Nathaniel Helvie of Midland, TX, Kris and wife Charlotte Helvie of Huntington and Eric Helvie of Huntington; nine nephews, including Joshua Helvie of Huntington; two nieces, including Mrs. Jeremiah (April) Wilfong of Huntington; with numerous cousins living in the Huntington area, two aunts: Lois Wynkoop of Huntington and Jane Foster of Huntington, aunt and uncle: Oscar and Mary Lundegard of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents: Merrill and Irene Helvie, two infant nephews: Benjamin and Nathaniel Helvie and a brother: Scott Thompson. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Andrews.
