  Bio: Olen J. “Ole” Helgeson, 82, of Kearney, died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Kearney Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Kearney Church of Christ with Greg Clark officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Kearney American Legion Post #52, and the Kearney V.F.W. Post #759. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements. Ole was born April 22, 1934 in Webster, South Dakota to Ole and Julia (Nelson) Helgeson. He attended school in Webster until he moved to the Kearney area working with a combine crew at the age of 14. He joined the Army in 1956 and served for two years. After moving back to Kearney, Ole married Marilyn Johnson on January 8, 1961 in Kearney. Ole was a farmhand in the Kearney and Axtell area for 30 years. He then worked at Eaton Corporation for 28 years retiring in 1996. He and his family spent a lot of time at their cabin at Johnson's lake. After retirement he spent his time with family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. He also spent a lot of time at local auctions purchasing antiques and some junk as his family would say. A few years ago he bought a farm with a large Morton building where he then spent a lot of his time organizing his auction finds. Ole was a member of the Kearney Church of Christ and the Kearney V.F.W. Post #759. Ole is survived by his wife Marilyn Helgeson of Kearney; daughters, Vicki, Laurie, and Shelly Helgeson of Kearney; son Scott Helgeson and his wife Dawn of Kearney; grandchildren, Josh Carpenter, Brayden Farrar, Brittney Farrar, Bryan Haarmann, Daxton Haarmann; sisters, June Carlson of Aberdeen, SD, twin sister Opal Quale and her husband Keith of Webster, SD, Diane Frazier and her husband Earl of Thief River Falls, MN; sister-in-law Ramona Helgeson of Webster, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ole was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Donnie “Red” Helgeson. Inskription: Parents of Vicki, Laurie, Shelley and Scott. Grandparents of Joshua, Brayden, Brittney, Bryan and Daxter.
