Norma Amelia Halvorson, 78, of Marengo and Conroy, died Tuesday evening at University Hospitals in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.
- Norma was born on the family farm near Marengo, Iowa. She graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy.
- Norma Amelia Helgeson married Milford Harold Halvorson on February 27, 1937 at the Lutheran parsonage in Norway, Iowa. She was a homemaker and enjoyed music very much. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church near Conroy and served faithfully as church organist there for over 60 years. Norma was always active in church affairs.
- She is survived by her husband; two sons, Marvin and wife, Rita, of Conroy and Ronald and wife, Cora, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; one brother, Olin Helgeson and wife, Jane, of Homestead; two sisters, Grace Olson of Marengo and Betty (Jack) Patterson of Naperville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Dodie Meyers of Lisbon, Eric Halvorson of New York, Bonnie Lohrer of Conroy, Melinda Stoner of Omaha, and Nels Halvorson of Conroy; and one great grandson, Michael Lohrer of Conroy.
- Norma was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
- Services were held at the First Lutheran Church near Conroy on Saturday, October 22, 1994 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Nathan Tuff officiating. Organist was Jan Weatherford and vocalists were Gene and Linda Schaefer.
- Pallbearers were Richard Olson, Alan Burr, Brian Olson, Joe Meyers, Matthew Stoner, and Steve Lohrer.
