- Webster --- Donald "Red" Helgeson, 59, of Webster, died of natural causes Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Lake Area Hospital in Webster.
- Donald Lee "Red" Helgeson was born Aug. 8, 1941, to Ole and Julia (Nelson) Helgeson at Webster. He attended Webster public schools and graduated from Webster High School in 1961. He worked at Long's Jewelry and for construction companies in the area.
- He married Ramona Bleibaum on April 30, 1966, at Groton. They made their home in Webster. In 1968, he began working for the South Dakota Department of Transportation in the highway department. Poor health forced him to retire after 19 years of service. He also served in the South Dakota National Guard for more than 25 years. After his retirement, he lived in Webster, except for a short stay at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
- He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Herbert McKennett Post No. 40, American Legion of Webster, Webster Jaycees and the Webster Fire Department.
- He loved to cook, serving many banquets for church and legion activities.
- Survivors include his wife of Webster; one son, Kelly Helgeson of Webster; three daughters, Lisa (Doug) Burns of Sioux Falls, and Carrie Helgeson and Melanie Helgeson, both of Bristol; one brother, Olen Helgeson of Kearney, Neb.; three sisters, June Carlson and Opal Quale, both of Webster, and Dianne Frazer of Thief River Falls, Minn.; and three grand- children.
- He was preceded in death by his parents.
- Casketbearers will be Jeff McKinney, Bob Goens, LeRon Pazek, Kim Carlson, Keith Quale and Earl Frazer.
