Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Graham United Methodist Church, Graham Township (rural Rice) for Esther L. Schumann, age 92, of Rice who died Thursday at Country Manor Health Care Center, Sartell. Rev. Suzanne Maki will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
Esther was born July 4, 1916 in Ostrander (Fillmore County), MN to Jacob & Nellie Katherine (Viske) Hartmann. She graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School in 1933. Esther married Leslie Schumann on March 24, 1938 at First Evangelical Church, St. Cloud. She was a homemaker and also worked at Country Manor Health Care Center and sold Avon Products. Esther was a member of Graham United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, was active in the United Methodist Women, serving as district officer and was involved in other church activities.
Survivors include her son and daughters, Jerry (Carol) of Rice, Margie (Warren) Medina of Sauk Rapids, Betty (Harvey) Meinert of Rice, Janice (Gary) Vannurden of Rice, Ardis (Dale) Husfeldt of Gaylord, Bev Hemmesch of Rice, and Phyllis "Susie" (Kelly) Allman of Lewisville, TX; sister and brothers, Agnes Paetznick of Sauk Rapids, Walter Hartmann of Brooklyn Park, and James Hartmann of St. Cloud; 23 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie on Oct. 29, 2000; son-in-law, Don Hemmesch; grandson, Timothy Medina; and brother, George Hartmann.
