    • Bio: Daily Freeman JournalAugust 4, 1926Another Old Resident DiesOlof Hanson, who resided in Stanhope for 14 years until the death of his wife two years ago, died Tuesday, July 27, at the home of his son, Joel Hanson, after an illness of six days. He was born at Trondheim, Norway, Oct. 19, 1845. He had reached the age of 80 years, 9 months and 9 days. He came to America in 1858, and lived at Hudson, Wis. four years and in 1862 moved to Milwaukee. He enlisted in the Army in November 1863, as a private in Company A, 4th Regiment, Wisconsin Calvary and served two and one-half years. He moved to Hamilton County in 1868, where he had lived until death. He was married Oct. 28, 1876 to Betsey Christianson, of Boonesboro. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter. The surviving children are Joel, David and Henry, of Hamilton County; Frank, of Colorado Springs; Andy, of Seganim, Mich., Gust, of Watertown, S.D., and Mrs. A.G. Newman, of Fort Dodge; also 19 grandchildren. The deceased had been a member of the M.E. church of South Marion for the past 45 years and was a man of deep religious convictions. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the home of Joel Hanson at 2 o'clock and at the Lutheran church at Stanhope at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Hans Oppedal. Following the services Rev. G.H. Dick spoke a few words.Interment was made at the South Marion Cemetery and the body was lowered to its earthly resting places by the following pall bears: Omen Enderson, Peter Hove, John Fardal, Ed Hove, Ole Brekke and Ole Brudos.Those who attended the funeral services from out of town were Mrs. Lena Gonse, of Boone; Mrs. Julia Swenson, of Story City, and Mr. and Mrs. Omen Enderson, of Story City.
