    • Bio: NELIGH - Services for Donald Hanson, 79, of Oakdale will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Neligh with burial in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be by American Legion Post 170 and VFW Post 7603. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Beyer Funeral Home.He died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.---Donald Ray Hanson was born May 11, 1930, at Bonesteel, S.D., to Helmer and Alice (Hoar) Hanson. He graduated from Burke High School in Burke, S.D., with the class of 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and served with the military police in England and at the Lincoln Air Base. He was honorably discharged as an airman first class in 1955.On Nov. 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jessie Low at the ranch house at Lucas, S.D.After his discharge he moved his family to the Beaver Bottom area southwest of Elgin where he ranched with his in-laws, Ray and Carrie Low.In 1960, he and his growing family relocated to the Elkhorn Valley Mink Ranch northeast of Oakdale.This is the farm where you would find him with his help-mate, Jessie, his in-laws and his family growing up around him. Don also was employed at the trailer factory in Neligh for a few years and bought the Dew Drop Inn, formerly known as the Candlelight Inn, in the late 1970s. He later sold the bar to his son. Although he was retired from farming for a number of years, his family still sought his counsel.He was a member of American Legion Post 170 at Tilden. He enjoyed bowling and shooting pool and was an avid outdoor sportsman, hunting and fishing here and in Canada.Survivors include his wife, Jessie, and their children, Bob and Lisa Hanson of Neligh, Barbara Hanson and her best friend, Steve Lodge of Columbus, Ron and Donna Hanson of Oakdale, Lynelle and Bob Heinzeroth of Stoughton, Wis., Carolyn and Boyd Pedersen of Clearwater, Dan and Denise Hanson of Stoughton, Wis., and Beth and Randy Terrian of Saginaw, Mich. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a brother, Dolar Hanson of Chadron.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Darlene Adam, son-in-law Ken Denk and granddaughter Joey Lynn Metz.
