She was raised the only daughter with two brothers on a farm just east of Burke. She graduated from Burke High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Albert Adam on April 27, 1955. To this union six children were born. They lived, worked, and raised their family on the farm in Fort Randall Valley for about 47 years. She and Albert were members of First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes, South Dakota, and volunteered many, many hours at various organizations throughout their married life. In 2002 it became necessary for them to leave the farm because of Albert's Alzheimer's disease. Darlene and Albert then moved to Minnesota to live next to Maylene and her family on their farm. In 2005 Albert moved to a nursing home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, which Darlene visited nearly every day, and she was a delight to many of the residents. She almost always took grandchildren with her, and she enjoyed assisting residents with activities there. In March 2008, Darlene decided to move herself and Albert to Pierre, South Dakota, to be near Alberta & Loretta. She was settling into her cozy apartment, meeting many new friends, and seemed to be adjusting very well. Then she was handed the devastating news that she had advanced colon/liver cancer. She handled it very courageously, took chemotherapy treatments, and had several months of good health. But God had other plans for her when the chemotherapy gradually quit working. She always said from the day of her cancer diagnosis that God has the master plan, and only He knows how long she has on this Earth.Family was very, very important to her, and she was always concerned about someone else. She has many friends at both nursing homes where Albert lived/lives: the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, and at Maryhouse in Pierre, South Dakota. She also has some very special friends at Lincoln Apartments where she was living. She also loved her home health nurse, Becky "My angel", and her oncology nurses, Dianne, Diana & Vicky. She leaves behind a large family, which she was so proud of: her husband of 53 years, Albert, at Maryhouse in Pierre, SD; her six children, her twenty-one grandchildren, her twelve great-grandchildren,step great-grandchildren and two brothers: Donald (Jessie) Hanson of Oakdale, NE & Doler (Bonnie) Hanson of Chadron, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer & Alice Hanson.
