Milford Harold Halvorson, 84, of Marengo and Conroy, died Tuesday morning at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a brief illness.
- Milford was born in Hilton township, Iowa County, Iowa. He received his education in the Conroy school.
- On February 27, 1937 Milford married Norma Amelia Helgeson at the Lutheran parsonage in Norway, Iowa.
- He farmed for many years in Hilton township. Milford was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Farm Bureau, a cemetery board trustee, and in earlier years was a board member of the Conroy Cooperative. He was instrumental in helping organize the Conroy Cooperative Grocery Store.
- Milford is survived by two sons; Marvin and wife, Rita, of Conroy and Ronald and wife, Cora, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; one sister Rosetta (Wayne) Burr of Lone Tree; five grandchildren, Dodie Meyers of Lisbon, Eric Halvorson of New York City, New York, Bonnie Lohrer of Conroy, Melinda Stoner of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nels Halvorson of Conroy; and two great grandchildren, Michael Lohrer and Amelia Meyers.
- He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Everett.
- Services were held on Friday, January 17, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Nathan Tuff officiating. Organist was Jan Weatherford and vocalists were Gene and Linda Schaefer.
- Pallbearers were Matthew Stoner, Chad Olson, Joe Meyers, Richard Olson, Steve Lohrer, Brian Olson, and Alan Burr.
