- Marvin W. Halvorson, age 74 of Conroy, died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at his home. Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M. Monday, September 14, 2015, First Lutheran Church, Conroy, with Rev. Donald Dovre officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the church. A general memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
- Marvin is survived by his wife Rita; three children, Dodie Meyers (Joe) of Mechanicsville, Bonnie Lohrer (Steve) of Conroy and Nels Halvorson (Jennifer) of Ladora; and 11 grandchildren, Michael and Madison Lohrer of Conroy, Amelia, Josie, Rachel, Sam, Macy, Alex, and Eli Meyers of Mechanicsville, and Brittany and Erin Halvorson of Ladora. Also surviving is a brother Ron Halvorson (Cora) of Missouri Valley.
- He was preceded in death by his parents.
- Marvin Wayne Halvorson was born November 30, 1940 in rural Iowa County, the son of Milford Halvorson and Norma Helgeson Halvorson. He attended the Iowa county schools and graduated in 1960. Marv served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas. He and Rita Doty were married June 17, 1962. Upon his return from the service, Marvin farmed in Iowa County for many years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Conroy and the Marengo American Legion Post 76. Marv enjoyed camping and traveling. He liked jam sessions and his morning coffee with the group at Stanerson Implement. But most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them.
