- Bio: The funeral service for Dean Haaland, 68, of Pierpont, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hecla. Burial and military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen at 2:30 pm, Thursday. Dean died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his home in Pierpont.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 511 Main St., Hecla.
Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Dean Haaland was born on June 18, 1944 at Veblen, SD to Merril and Doris (Christopherson) Haaland. He graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1962. On December 29, 1963 he married Diana Ramsey at Britton, SD. He worked at various places including, Red Owl, American Family Insurance, seed salesman for many years, Cenex in Bristol and Pierpont and Dean drove school bus for the Langford School system after his retirement.
Dean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hecla. He was a member of the American Legion and served in the National Guard from 1962 to 1989. He loved fishing, hunting, playing fast pitch softball, Polka music, playing cards but he hated losing, playing music and his guitar. He was the best small engine mechanic and could have a converstation with anybody. His greatest love was his wife, Diana, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Dean's life are his wife, Diana Haaland, Pierpont, children, Jay (Jeannie) Haaland, Troy (Sue) Haaland, Trevor (Kelley) Haaland, Lisa Anderson and Krista (Wade) Charlton, grandchildren, Tyler, Mitchell, Michael (Samantha), Corey (Leah), Erin, Josh, Courtney, Jordan, Jenna, Ryne, Haylee and Bricelyn, great grandchildren, Brooke Lynn, Avery and Kayleigh, brothers, Terry (Marcia) and Wayne (Linda) Haaland.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Merril and Doris Haaland and step-mother, Gloria Haaland.
