A funeral service for Carroll W. Gustafson of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home, followed by burial at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale with military honors.
- Mr. Gustafson died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Bellingham. He was 77. Born May 21, 1923, to Carl and Bertha (Bervin) Gustafson in Bellingham, he grew up on a farm in Matsqui, B.C.
- Mr. Gustafson served as a radio operator on a B-17 during World War II and completed 35 daylight bombing missions over Germany.
- On Aug. 23, 1952, he married Annie Stech in Abbotsford, B.C.
- Mr. Gustafson worked as a railroad conductor and brakeman for 33 years before retiring.
- Mr. Gustafson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars William Matthews Post 1585, American Legion Post 7, 457th Bomb Group, Bellingham Senior Activity Center and Central Lutheran Church of Bellingham.
- He loved fishing, hunting and tying flies. He enjoyed politics and current events.
- Survivors include his wife of Bellingham daughters Carol Hamilton of Bellingham and Barbara M. Forstrom of Olalla son Cary W. Gustafson of Ferndale sister Jeanette Kunzmann of Bellingham brothers Arnold Gustafson of Bellingham and Norman Gustafson of Victoria, B.C. and four grandchildren.
