  • Noteringar
    • Bio: Kenneth Gene Gunderson passed into the arms of Jesus on June 12, 2019, with his family by his side. “Gene” as he was known by his family, was born on June 22, 1934 in Bryant, SD to Adolph and Dorothy (Collins) Gunderson. Gene grew up on a farm northeast of Bryant. He attended country school near Bryant and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated in 1952 from Bryant High School.
    • After graduation, Gene worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA before joining the Army in June of 1955. Gene was stationed in France prior to his honorable discharge on December 21, 1956. He was in the reserves until 1963. After his discharge from the service, Gene worked at Morrell’s until his retirement. After his retirement, he moved back to the family farm near Bryant.
    • Gene grew up in a musical family where he played the accordion and organ, while his brother played the steel guitar and sister played the acoustic guitar. Family was very important to Gene and he was dearly loved by his nephews and niece. In his younger years, he looked forward to spoiling them, especially at Christmas. He enjoyed the times when extended family would visit the farm. He especially enjoyed the 4th of July and he always made sure the evening ended with a large fireworks display. He ensured there was an endless supply of sparklers for the kids. Gene had a passion for animals, especially cats.
    • Grateful to have shared in his life are his sister, Beverly Holida of Chester, SD; his nephews Douglas (Amy) Gunderson of Burnsville, MN; Kevin (Julie) Gunderson of Volga, SD; Craig (Julie) Gunderson of Volga, SD; Terry Gunderson of Sioux Falls, and niece, Cynthia (Darwin) Minder of Lennox, SD, four great nephews and 3 great nieces, and 5 great-great nephews and one great-great niece. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Darlene Gunderson, brother-in-law Gayle Holida, and a great nephew, Christopher Gunderson.
    • Gravesite celebration of life service, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Our Redeemer Cemetery at Bryant, SD. Family members should meet 15 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery.
