- Gene grew up in a musical family where he played the accordion and organ, while his brother played the steel guitar and sister played the acoustic guitar. Family was very important to Gene and he was dearly loved by his nephews and niece. In his younger years, he looked forward to spoiling them, especially at Christmas. He enjoyed the times when extended family would visit the farm. He especially enjoyed the 4th of July and he always made sure the evening ended with a large fireworks display. He ensured there was an endless supply of sparklers for the kids. Gene had a passion for animals, especially cats.
