- Bio: Georgia M. Green Speare died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at RiverStone Hospice House (St. John's retirement community) in Billings.
- A longtime Laurel resident, Georgia was born during a blizzard to LeRoy and Christena (Jordan) Green on her grandparents' homestead near Rapelje on April 1, 1924. Her family lived in various areas, including a ranch on the East Boulder, before settling in Laurel, where she graduated from Laurel High School in 1942. Following the end of World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Edwin C. Speare, on June 29, 1946.
- Georgia's main mission in life was to serve the Lord while being the best wife and mother she could be, and was actively involved in her children's lives from leading Scouts to teaching Sunday school. Many of Georgia's activities were church related, both on a local and state level, including serving as the President of the state Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and as state Spiritual Director Chair, organizing women's retreats. Georgia was also an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. After the children were grown, Georgia went to work as the Laurel High School secretary and was a good friend to the many students she served. Georgia's favorite "job" was that of Grandma. She enjoyed and cherished her grandchildren, and was always ready for games and stories.
- Georgia made many new friends after moving to Mission Ridge in 2008, where she was active in Bible Study, socials, and especially game night. The family of the "Birthday Lady" would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff members of Mission Ridge and RiverStone Hospice for their loving care and dedication.
- Georgia is survived by her loving children, Edwin C. (Suzy) Speare, Robert (Bonnie) Speare, and Laura (Roger) Schillinger; grandchildren, Rebecca (Sean) Jones, Edwin C. (MacKenzie) Speare, Sarah (Andrew) Racki, Amy (Tyler) Westrope, Megan Schillinger, and Betsy Speare; great-grandchildren, Chantel Jones and Eddie Speare; sisters, Lila McKinney and Patsy Wagner; sister-in-law, Shirley Speare; and numerous nieces and nephews.
