- Bio: *** IN LOVING MEMORY OF ***Arnold "Arnie" Gilbertson was born Jan. 6, 1917, near Hudson, S.D. in Lincoln County, to Arndt and Alma (Marken) Gilbertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Lands Lutheran Church near Hudson. He attended country school and graduated from Canton High School. While in school, he participated in athletics and was a member of the 1933 undefeated football team.He married Mildred Coyer on Oct. 1, 1940. The couple lived on the family homestead, where he farmed with his father and brother, Maurice. They moved to Canton in 1979. His wife, Mildred, died Feb. 19, 1984.He married Vera Ulrickson on Aug. 16, 1985 and made their home in Canton. Due to failing health, he had been a resident of Canton Good Samaritan Center since October 2005.He was a life long member of Lands Lutheran Church. He served as a board member for the Farmer's Co-op and at First American Bank in Canton. He was a member of the Canton Senior Citizen's Center, where he spent many afternoons shooting pool. He also was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards at Crawford's Implement. He was well known for telling a good joke. Arnold "Arnie" Gilbertson, 90, of Canton; South Dakota passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Canton Good Samaritan Center.
