"OBITUARY
- Mrs. Caroline Helvig was born March 21, 1860, at Lisbon, Ill., and died at her home in Roland Saturday, December 13, at 2 a.m., at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 22 days.
- She went to Calamus in Clinton county, Iowa, in 1865, where she grew to womanhood, and where she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. P. A. Rasmuson.
- She was married to John Helvig on October 5, 1880, and the following spring they came to this community, settling on a farm 4 miles northeast of Roland. They lived there for 33 years and in 1914 moved to Roland, where she has since resided. Mr. Helvig passed away on September 2, 1919.
- Seven children were born, the oldest of whom is dead. The others are Hans Helvig and Mrs. R. J. Myrland of Forest City, Abel Helvig and Mrs. Andrew Bergland of McCallsburg, Mrs. Wm. Myrland and Mrs. L. J. Ritland of Roland. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and a brother, Martin George of Triumph, Minn.
- The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the residence and at Bergen church, Rev. M. O. Sumstand officiating, with interment in the Roland cemetery. The pall bearers were Sam H. Twedt, Andrew H. Twedt, Henry Cole, B. J. Ritland, Lewis Omundson and Severt Sjurson. Musical numbers were rendered by the Bergen Ladies Aid chorus, and Otto J. Hanson.
- Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hilgendorf of Triumph, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Helvig of Pluver, Peter Olson, John OLson, Thor Olson and Bertha Olson of Calamus, Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Helvig, Mrs. J.H. Jacobson, Martin Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Wier Tjelmeland of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Hans J. Helvig, Irene and Raymond Helvig, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Myrland, Arlene Myrland and LaVerna George of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Henderson, T. Onerheim, Jens Onerheim, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson of Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Ritland and Mrs. B. Fagerland of McCallsburg."
