- Bio: ALICE SAWYER Alice Caroline (Fredrick) Sawyer, age 98, passed away Monday, November 19, in Orland. Alice was born in Minnesota on March 12, 1920, to Gladys Ness & Ernest Fredrick. In 1930, Alice and her family moved to California. In 1937, she went to school at El Monte High, where she met the love of her life, Warren "Blackie" Sawyer. They walked down the aisle together to receive their diplomas in 1938. Little did they know that on August 17, 1940, they would walk down the aisle again, but this time to become husband and wife. They had their first son, Gerald on 10/19/1941, and then Tom came along on 9/23/1953. The Sawyer family then moved to Orland in 1963, where she resided until her death. She loved craft work, yard work, traveling, reading, and her once a month lunches with "the group". Alice is survived by her grandson, Brian Sawyer, granddaughter, Christy Sawyer Williams, great grandsons Kai, Jacob, & Austin, great grand-daughter, Ashley, nephew, Mike Irwin (Sandy), "adopted" granddaughter Jennifer Richards, and numerous very close friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Blackie in 1996, son, Gerald in 1973, and son, Tom in 1982. Per Alice's request, no services will be held.
